Authorities in northern Minnesota say an 8-year-old boy reported missing Thursday evening near Cass Lake was found safe on Friday.
The Leech Lake Tribal Police Department posted on social media at about 10:30 a.m. Friday that the boy was found safe. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported later Friday that he was found “at a residence in the area” but did not offer further details.
Both agencies thanked the public for their support during the search.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension had issued a statewide alert after the boy went missing from a home south of Cass Lake on Thursday evening. A State Patrol plane assisted in the search, as crews on the ground went door-to-door and used drones, ATVs and snowmobiles. Temperatures in the area dropped to near zero overnight.
