After several hours of negotiations between law enforcement and the suspect, the shelter in place for Pine Island, Minn. has ended as the suspect is now in custody, according to a social media post from the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office.
An Olmsted County judge issued a warrant for the suspect’s arrest and on site SWAT teams deployed less lethal rounds. The suspect returned fire and hit law enforcement vehicles, but no officers.
The suspect ultimately surrendered.
The shelter in place alert went out to both Goodhue and Olmsted counties because the incident was occurring near the county line, according to a spokesperson for Goodhue County. Although it was mistakenly published for greater Minnesota, the alert was only meant for those in close vicinity to the incident.
