North Shore lake-effect snow
Radars lit up across the Twin Cities southern Minnesota Friday. That was what we meteorologists call “system snow” with the Alberta clipper tracking through southern Minnesota.
But east winds across Lake Superior also generated an impressive band of heavier lake-effect snow that rolled southward from Two Harbors through Knife River into Duluth. Check out the radar loop Friday afternoon along the North Shore. This baby dumped 6 inches in Two Harbors.
Travel woes continue
Travel remains difficult across much of the region Friday evening. The State Patrol says it responded to more than 370 crashes on Minnesota highways between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday. The Patrol also assisted more than 200 drivers of other vehicles that went off the road amid the winter storm.
As of Friday evening there were no reports of serious injuries or fatalities from those crashes.
Meanwhile, the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is reporting about a dozen flights have been canceled and another 60 flights delayed Friday evening.
Classic January weekend
