Ep. 15: Friends, not food!
Spring officially sprung this week and things were definitely poppin' in The Warming House. Between the equinox, Norwuz (Persian New Year), #meatlessmarch, NCAA basketball madness, and our very own Great Minnesota Burger Bracket, we were certifiably giddy.
Sibling duo Aubry and Kale Walch (aka the Herbivorous Butchers) stopped by to talk with co-host Nina Moini about their new vegan "fried chick'n" spot opening soon. And in what can only be described as the Gold Standard of sibling cooperation, they simultaneously answered "Smashing Pumpkins" to this trivia stumper: "This Chicago group must’ve had a Siamese dream about destroying a popular cultivar of winter squash before they came up with their name." Wait. What?!
Co-host Sean McPherson was "In a Sentimental Mood," bringing the super chill vibes of Duke Ellington and John Coltrane to the turntable for our classic vinyl spin. He said, "What you have on this album is two stunning masters at different points in their career reading a love letter to one another. Ellington, 27 years Coltrane's senior, is the greatest composer of the 20th century. And Coltrane’s on the short list for greatest improviser of all time. The mutual respect for each other and the reverence comes through, and not in a generational clash of the titans-way."
Chef-owners of Krewe Restaurant in St. Joseph talked with Sean about their efforts to get kids growing their own veggies and waxed poetic about the beauty of Louisiana bread pudding. Meatless March activist George Shannon took on a caller from Jordan in an epic Smarter Than A Vegetarian battle. And the general manager at J. Selby's in St. Paul got us humming a new vegan version of the classic BK jingle "two all not-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheeze, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun!"

After much effort made by the residents of Carlton County, we finally tracked down the owner of Gordy's Hi-Hat, Sever Lundquist. Gordy's is opening for the summer season with perfectly distanced car hop service and is also in the semi-finals of our Great Minnesota Burger Bracket! If you haven't already, vote here! We're turning up the heat on this competition!
Last, but never least, our "advice-ologist" Sanni Brown dished out some advice for a non-meat-eater-cheater whose hubby caught her with a few beef jerky wrappers in her handbag. Oooooo! But the sanctity of the purse, people! Some boundaries are never meant to be crossed!
