Red pine shoot moths leaving their mark across much of Minnesota

Red pine trees across much of Minnesota have been damaged by a large outbreak of the red pine shoot moth this summer. The moths -- in their caterpillar stage -- eat and nest in the tender outer twigs of the pine trees. The moths don’t actually kill trees -- just the new shoots, slowing down a tree's growth for a few years.
