Every week, The Thread checks in with booksellers around the country about their favorite books of the moment. This week, we spoke to Annie Metcalf from Magers & Quinn in Minneapolis.
These are trying times for businesses of all kinds — bookstores are no exception. Many are closed to public browsing, but remain open to fulfill online and phone orders. Annie Metcalf, from Magers & Quinn, says the store’s phones have been ringing all day with people eager to stock up on reading material.
Metcalf recommends the anthology “That We May Live,” part of a new series from Two Lines Press, focused on literature in translation. This volume is filled with speculative fiction by Chinese authors. “There’s only about five or six stories in it and they’re odd and they’re eerie and they’re so sensual — so many smells and sounds and strange visuals,” Metcalf said.
