A surprising and satisfying historical novel
Every week, The Thread checks in with booksellers around the country about their favorite books of the moment. This week, we spoke to Ann Woodbeck from Excelsior Bay Books in Excelsior, Minn.
“In 1893, two stories march across a drought-ravaged Arizona. A frontier woman waits for her husband to return with life-saving water, and tries to keep her young son’s fears of wild beasts at bay. In the other story, an outlaw hides in the U.S. Army’s camel corps,” said bookseller Ann Woodbeck.
“When the two stories finally cross paths, it’s just remarkable. It’s literary and suspenseful and the two stories intersect in a way that is surprising and satisfying and reminds us why we read historical novels.”
