Ramp, lane closures top Twin Cities weekend road woes

Construction driving hassles look to be in the “not so bad” range Friday through Sunday. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has some new lane and ramp closures set for the first State Fair weekend, but no highway shutdowns.

MnDOT says the ramps from Third Street, Fourth Street and Washington Avenue to southbound Interstate 35W in Minneapolis will close at 10 p.m. Friday. They'll remain closed all weekend.

The ramp from southbound I-35W to westbound Interstate 94 also is closing, along with ramps from southbound I-35W to Eleventh Avenue and Minnesota Highway 55.

The ramp closures may be of particular note to people attending the Vikings preseason game —Saturday at noon at U.S. Bank Stadium — especially as they leave after the game.

All those ramp closures are scheduled to end before the Monday morning rush hour.

Elsewhere in the metro area, westbound Interstate 494 from Hardman Avenue in South St. Paul to State Highway 62 will be down to just one lane from 6 p.m. Friday to early Monday morning. The ramp from northbound Highway 52 to westbound I-494 also will be closed this weekend.

But there is some good news: two ramps at the 94-494-694 cloverleaf interchange are set to reopen Saturday after being closed since May: the ramp from westbound I-94 to southbound 494, and the ramp from southbound 694 to eastbound 94.
