Each spring brings a symphony of colorful wildflowers to Minnesota's forests, wetlands and prairies.
As the snow melts, pasque flower and hepatica are among the first plants to bloom.
Then come trout lilies, violets, marsh marigolds and more.
Here's a selection of 15 photos of just a few of the many wildflowers in bloom so far this spring in Minnesota — along with a 16th photo, of an invasive species that is a threat to native wildflowers in the state.
The show will continue in the coming weeks and months as other favorites — including large-flowered trillium, several varieties of lady's slipper and a host of prairie wildflowers — begin to bloom across the state.
