May snowstorm buries 117-year record, and Duluth

A strong storm left over 10 inches of snow in parts of Duluth, breaking a number of records along the way. New records include the snowiest single day in May.

This 2019 storm dropped 8.3 inches on Wednesday, May 8, while the previous record of 5.5 inches was set on May 10, 1902.

Another record that fell was the monthly snowfall total for May. With the 10.6 inches left behind from this storm, May 2019 is the new record holder for snowiest May on record with 10.9 inches of snow. The previous record was 8.1 inches set in 1954.
