As we wind up this holiday weekend, a winter storm will affect some travelers to our south and southeast.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from Sunday morning through Monday morning:

Heavy snow and strong winds will spread from Kansas and Nebraska through southern Iowa, northern Illinois and parts of southeastern Wisconsin this Sunday and Sunday evening.
The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings from Kansas and Nebraska through southern Iowa and northwestern Missouri, with winter storm warnings in southeastern Iowa, northern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin:

snow is expected near the Interstate 80 corridor with light
amounts to the north and heavy amounts just to the south.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations
of 5 to 10 inches expected with highest amounts toward the
Missouri border. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
* WHERE...Southern Iowa.
* WHEN...From 6 AM to 9 PM CST Sunday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could become extremely dangerous
due to icy, snow-covered roads and significantly reduced
visibilities to near zero at times from blowing snow.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded, stay with your vehicle.

...Potent Winter Storm Expected Today and Tonight...
.Winter weather conditions will be moving into the area early
this morning and continuing through tonight. Precipitation will
begin early this morning and is likely to start as rain or a
rain, snow mix south of a line from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to
Freeport, Illinois with a switch to snow from north to south
through the morning and early afternoon hours.
Widespread snowfall amounts of 6 to 8 inches are expected along
an axis from south central Iowa though eastern Iowa into north
central Illinois. Areas of snowfall amounts up to 12 inches will
be possible in this axis, including the Quad Cities. Strong
north winds will develop today, leading to consierable blowing and
drifting snow and dangerous roads. Near blizzard conditions are
possible, especially over eastern Iowa into Illinois. The strong
winds, combined with heavy, wet snow may also result in downed
tree branches and power lines.

.Dangerous travel conditions are expected late this afternoon and
all evening across southeast Wisconsin due to the combination of
heavy snow and strong winds. Near blizzard conditions are expected
in far southeast Wisconsin. Highest snow amounts will be in
southeast Wisconsin where 6 to 9 inches of snow is forecast.
Some minor changes in the track could mean some big differences
in snow totals for the region. There will be a tight gradient
between heavy snow and no snow in the Iowa, Lafayette, Dane,
Jefferson, Dodge, and Sheboygan county areas.

inches. Highest amounts are likely in southeast portions of the
counties. Winds gusts of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with highest
gusts and possible blowing snow late this evening. Wind gusts up
to 40 mph are possible near Lake Michigan.
* WHERE...Waukesha, Milwaukee and Green Counties.
* WHEN...From 3 PM this afternoon to 6 AM CST Monday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on snow covered and slippery roads.
The falling snow and patchy blowing snow could also reduce

Temperature trends
Sunday afternoon highs are expected to be in the teens in about the northern third of Minnesota, with 20s elsewhere.
It'll also be chilly on Monday, with highs in the teens for much of Minnesota, and lower 20s southeast:
Twin Cities metro area highs are expected to be in the lower 20s Tuesday, followed by middle 20s Wednesday. We could touch 30 degrees on Thursday, with low to mid 30s on Friday.
