Twin Cities growing season ends overnight; 60s again by Thursday

Goodbye, growing season!

The first freeze of the season is likely Friday morning in the Twin Cities. Temperatures will drop to near 30 degrees Friday morning in the inner metro core. Low in the upper 20s will be common in the suburbs Friday morning.

Slightly long growing season

Preliminary numbers suggest the 2018 growing season will be 174 days in the Twin Cities. That's almost a week longer than the average of 168 days at MSP Airport. The last two growing seasons have been longer than average, including what the record 221-day growing season in 2016.

Milder next week

The upper air pattern shows signs of blowing milder Pacific air into the Upper Midwest late next week.

Both the European and NOAA's GFS model crank out highs in the mid-60s next Thursday and Friday. I still think southern Minnesota has a shot at 70-degrees late next week.

Hang in there!
