Trump plans another campaign stop in Minnesota

President Donald Trump is making his second campaign stop of the year in Minnesota next week, holding a rally in Rochester to promote Republican candidates in the midterm election.

Trump visited Duluth in June to rally support for Republican 8th District candidate Pete Stauber.

Rochester is in the 1st Congressional District, a sprawling southern district dotted with farms. Two years ago, voters there supported Trump by 15 percent points.

It's currently represented by Democrat U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, who is stepping down and is the DFL nominee for governor. Republican candidate Jim Hagedorn and Democrat Dan Feehan are vying to replace Walz in a race that has already become a top target for national groups.

“Southern Minnesotans will have the first-hand chance to hear the president outline his many accomplishments and positive vision for America’s future," Hagedorn, who has been openly supportive of the president in his campaign, said in a statement. "My goal in Congress is to partner with President Trump and like-minded colleagues to keep moving our nation in the right direction - to keep America safe, make America prosperous with high-wage jobs, defend our God-given rights and sustain agriculture and our rural way of life.”

Trump is expected to talk about his "American First" agenda, according to a release from the campaign, as well as "the need for Minnesotans to help maintain and expand the GOP majorities in the House and Senate."

Republican Party of Minnesota Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan said the visit from Trump is a "dream come true" for Minnesota Republicans.

"We are jumping through the roof with excitement to welcome our great and fearless leader, President Donald J. Trump, back to Minnesota next week," she said.
