Al Bowlly has been called Britain's first pop star and is credited with inventing the singing style known as crooning.
He was popular in the 1930s, but his career was cut short when he was killed by a German Luftwaffe parachute bomb that exploded outside his London flat in 1941.
Several of Bowlly's songs are featured on a new collection of cover tunes by Jim James of My Morning Jacket.
