Communities of color in Minneapolis and St. Paul face an uphill battle to achieve the same economic success as whites. The Twin Cities is ranked the second worst city in the U.S. for racial disparities.
According to the Department of Employment and Economic Development, unemployment among African Americans in the Twin Cities is nearly three times higher than whites and the home ownership rate for African American households fell to a record low of 23 percent in 2015.
MPR News host Tom Weber spoke to Steven Belton, president and CEO of the Minneapolis Urban League, and Amalia Moreno Damgaard, writer, chef and founder of Amalia LLC, about the economic crisis facing communities of color.
