Puerto Rico is slowly regaining electricity and clean drinking water. Back in September, humanitarian organizations made a plea for volunteers to go to Puerto Rico to help.
A nurse based in Savage, Minn., used her vacation time to answer that call. Lindsey Smith talked to MPR host Tom Weber about working with Puerto Rican emergency volunteers to treat residents who have lost everything. They were joined by Rep. Melisa Franzen, DFL-Edina.
