Heat pump
Low pressure in the Dakotas pumps an unusually warm air mass north into Minnesota. The Canadian GEM model and Euro are farther west with the system over the weekend than the U.S. GFS model. If that verifies, the focus for scattered showers and T-Storms will favor the eastern Dakotas into western and northern Minnesota. Sunday could be another hot and humid day like Friday if the western solution comes to pass.
Severe risk west
The best chance for severe storms favors western and northern Minnesota.
Near record heat Friday
The record high temperature at MSP is 95 degrees Friday. We may fall short of that, but it's going to be toasty. I have a hunch Sunday's forecast high of 84 could be conservative.
Cooler breezes next week
The upper air pattern buckles with northwest flow and a shot of cooler air next week.
Our breezes next week will be noticeably cooler. Highs in the 50s and 60s will be common statewide. I still think we'll see more 70s, and probably another shot at 80 once again before the snow flies.
Stay tuned.
