Thousands of people gathered in Plymouth this morning for the funeral of Wayzata police officer Bill Mathews. He died last Friday when he was answering a call to clear some debris from Highway 12 and was struck by a passing vehicle.
The 9-year veteran of the Wayzata force will be laid to rest in the Summit Park Cemetery after a day of solemn ceremony and reflection on the service he and other officers provide their communities.
MPR reporter Tim Nelson reported from the funeral.
