StoryCorps is coming to Minnesota. Here's how to share your story.

So, what's your story?

You'll have a chance to record, and if you like, share it with the world this September and October when StoryCorps comes to St. Paul as part of MPR's 50th anniversary celebration.

StoryCorps records conversations all around the country — between family members, loved ones or those just seeking to better understand one another. Their mission is to allow for human connections.

"Everything I do, and I think all we're doing is telling the truth about who we are as human beings, as Americans — decreasing fear and increasing hope," StoryCorps founder David Isay said during a recent speech at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado.

Interview slots are expected to fill up fast, here's how to claim yours:

How to make a reservation

The first round of slots open Thursday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. At that time, appointments in St. Paul will be posted online at storycorps.org/reservations.

You can also reserve a slot over the phone by calling 1-800-850-4406. You don't need to be an MPR member to participate, but either way you'll have to use StoryCorps' system — MPR can't make reservations for you.

What you'll need

StoryCorps suggests that you have a few things ready before calling in your reservation:

• A preferred date and time for your interview

• Your interview partner's name and contact information — including their full name, email, phone number and mailing address

• A valid credit card

Why the credit card? While there isn't a fee to participate, there is a $50 cancellation fee if you cancel your reservation within 48 hours of the appointment time, so make sure you have it off.

It's suggested that you have a calendar nearby with a few different possibilities for interview dates, just in case you can't get your preferred slot.

What to do if you didn't get an interview

StoryCorps will only be in St. Paul for a month and, as we know, Minnesotans have a lot of great stories to tell. But don't panic. Another round of time slots will open on Friday, Sept. 8.

And you can always share your story with StoryCorps via their app. From there you can record your story on your phone of tablet and submit it to be archived.
