A very nice Saturday; rain chance for some on Sunday

Some of us saw dense fog early Saturday morning.

Here's a look at the fog that remained at mid-morning Saturday, via the new GOES-16 weather satellite:

You can see the fog in the Mississippi River valley in southeastern Minnesota and in the smaller river valleys of southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

There was also some fog in the southwestern part of the Twin Cities metro area and points to the southwest.

The August sun will burn that fog off, and our Saturday weather will be enjoyable statewide.

Sunday changes

A cool front moves slowly through Minnesota Sunday and Sunday evening.

The front could stir up some scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm over northern Minnesota Sunday morning.

Central and southern Minnesota could see a few scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening, with a better chance of a few showers and thunderstorms Sunday night..

Highs Sunday will be in the 70s over about the northwestern half of Minnesota, with 80s over the southeastern half:

Dew point temps in central and southern Minnesota will rise well into the 60s Sunday afternoon, so it'll feel humid:

Eclipse viewing?

Do you have solar eclipse viewing plans for Monday?

There could be substantial cloudiness over much of Minnesota on Monday.

Here's the latest National Weather Service cloud cover forecast for 1 p.m. CDT Monday:

Grey areas are where cloud cover is expected to be greater than 50%.  S

Southern Minnesota could have between 70% and 80% cloud cover.

The closest location along the path of total eclipse with minimal cloud cover would be in Nebraska.

The latest run of The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's North American Mesoscale forecast model shows that there may be a gap in the lowest cloud layer near the Twin Cities metro area:

Of course, there could still be clouds at the middle or high levels of the atmosphere, but at least this latest low level cloud forecast gives us some hope.

There is also the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Monday forecast, with a stationary front nearby.

Bottom line, check later forecasts.

Back to the 80s

Our average high temperature is 80 degrees this time of year in the Twin Cities.

Some spots in the metro area could reach the lower 80s Saturday afternoon.

The last time we hit 80 degrees at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was last Saturday:

A few spots in the Twin Cities metro area could see highs in the middle 80s Sunday afternoon.

Lower 80s are on tap for the metro area on Monday, then highs drop back into the 70s for Tuesday through Friday.
