I-394 to I-94 east ramp closure tops Twin Cities weekend road woes

One of the busiest — and some would argue worst — interstate ramps in the Twin Cities is closing for two weeks beginning Sunday.

And with that, we wish you a happy weekend.

Here's a look at what will cause headaches on the roads through Sunday night (click the link for a larger view of the map above).

Interstate 394 to Interstate 94 east

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is shutting down the ramp from I-394 east to I-94 east in Minneapolis for two weeks, starting Sunday night.

The detour is Minnesota Highway 100 south to Minnesota Highway 62 east to Interstate 35W north.

MnDOT says the closure is needed so improvements can be made to the ramp as part of the I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center project.

Crews will begin reopening the ramp in time for rush hour Aug. 28, MnDOT said.

Speaking of the I-94 project, both directions of the interstate now have three lanes open from I-394 to Dowling Avenue through Oct. 1.

New in ramp closures there: 53rd Avenue to westbound I-94.

And make note of this upcoming closure: Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Tuesday, eastbound Broadway Street over I-94 will be closed.

Ramp closures in St. Paul, Eden Prairie

In the west metro, the entrance and exit ramps from Minnesota Highway 212 to Interstate 494 are closed daily from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Sunday.

And in the east, the ramp from Mounds Boulevard to eastbound I-94 is closed through September.

Buses to replace Blue and Green Line trains

From 3 a.m. Sunday through 3 a.m. Monday, buses will replace light rail trains at select stations.

On the Blue Line, buses will take over for trains from Franklin Avenue to the Target Field Station.

On the Green Line, riders will transfer to buses from Raymond Avenue to the Target Field Station.
