North Dakota Farmers Union wants federal disaster payments

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map shows 82 percent of North Dakota still experiences some drought conditions.

But the federal government has declared some farmland in central and western areas as drought disaster areas.

Mark Watne, president of the N.D. Farmers Union, described the relief efforts set up by the state Department of Agriculture and North Dakota State University N.D to help farmers.

He joined MPR News host Tom Weber to give an update on the situation.
