Major League Baseball's annual draft of amateur players will be held Monday night and for the first time since 2001, the Minnesota Twins have the first overall pick.
In 2001, the top prospects were collegiate pitcher Mark Pryor and high school catcher Joe Mauer. The Twins picked Mauer, which turned out to be a good choice, but many other first picks have not panned out.
Unlike football and basketball, baseball prospects are much tougher to evaluate and usually take several years to reach the big leagues. LaVelle Neal, who covers the Twins for the Star Tribune, spoke to MPR News about the Twins and this year's draft.
