Daily dispatches: The trial of officer Jeronimo Yanez
As of Friday morning, St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez is expected to take the stand in his own defense.
After the prosecution rested its case Thursday, the defense called on the court to acquit Yanez on all counts, arguing the prosecution's case didn't offer sufficient evidence to convict and didn't delve deeply enough into Yanez's state of mind during the stop.
But Ramsey County Judge William Leary denied the motion to acquit.
Drunken tweetstorm deserves felony sentence, MN court rules
After threatening police officers on Twitter, Harrison Rund of South St. Paul was arrested and a judge gave him a misdemeanor.
Now, the Minnesota Supreme Court said the judge shouldn't have done that, ruling that none of the reasons for departing from the state's guidelines for the crime are allowed under the law.
Minnesota joins 'Climate Alliance' to uphold Paris pact
Gov. Mark Dayton on Monday joined a group of states that say they'll uphold the emission reduction targets laid out in the Paris climate accord. The move comes after President Trump last week pulled U.S. support.
"President Trump's withdrawal will cause serious damage to our environment and our economy," Dayton said in a statement.
Go outside: Minnesota state parks are free on Saturday
This Saturday is National Get Outdoors Day. That means all 75 Minnesota state parks are offering free admission. Many of them have special events for the day, too.
Renovated Children's Museum reopens, and the kids love it
One and a half years and $30 million later, the renovated Minnesota Children's Museum reopened.
The downtown St. Paul museum was redesigned with a new philosophy of play in mind.
There's more open space than before, and that's intentional.
