Freelance writer Joe Albert's recent article for the DNR publication the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer talked about the history of elk in Minnesota.
They used to be as common as mosquitoes, Albert quips. Now there are just three managed herds that consist of about 100 animals in northwestern Minnesota. However, there are efforts to restore the ability for elk to roam free in new terrains.
Albert explained this effort to possibly reintroduce elk in parts of the state and shared the elk's call, or bugle as it's known.
