Dr. Robert Kane devoted his life to improving how people live as they get older. He was especially concerned with those needing long-term care.
Kane was the Minnesota chair of aging and long-term care at the University of Minnesota's School of Public Health. Over the course of his career, he authored and edited more than 35 books and 500 journal articles.
Kane passed away March 6 at the age of 77, but he was still engaged in his life's work. Kane's work will be carried on by his many students and collaborators, including Dan Buettner.
With Kane's help, Buettner founded "Blue Zones," an organization that helps people live longer, healthier lives using insights from the world's longest-living communities.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Buettner for the occasional series, "Parting Thoughts," which honors the lives of Minnesotans who have recently passed on.
