Friday is the last day in operation for the two restaurants at the top of the downtown Minneapolis Macy's — formerly known as Dayton's. The rest of the department store closes in March.

The two restaurants, Oak Grill and next-door Skyroom, both on the 12th floor, have been fixtures in Minneapolis dining for more than a century.

Star Tribune restaurant critic Rick Nelson recently wrote a requiem to the restaurants at Macy's, and he joined MPR News host Tom Weber for a look back at the dining history and culture at Minnesota's most iconic department store.

Correction (Jan. 27, 2017): An earlier version of this story misstated when the Macy's store will close and included an incorrect age for the Oak Grill. This post has been updated.
