Court records show the man suspected of fatally shooting a sheriff's deputy in western Wisconsin has an extensive criminal record.
The 43-year-old man is accused of killing Rusk County Sheriff's Deputy Dan Glaze Saturday night as the officer investigated a report of a suspicious vehicle in a field several miles from the suspect's residence near Ladysmith, about 130 miles northeast of Minneapolis.
The sheriff's department says that after the 33-year-old deputy located the vehicle, he called for backup but wasn't heard from again. Responding officers found Glaze's body in his squad car.
Charges against the suspect, arrested Sunday, date back to the 1990s with the most recent crimes of recklessly endangering safety, criminal damage to property and resisting arrest filed earlier this year. The man is jailed pending formal charges.
