Chicago finally hit No. 1 40 years ago

Today's Morning Edition music is from "If You Leave Me Now" by Chicago, which was No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart 40 years ago.

Though they had a string of top 10 hits in the '70s, this was their first No. 1.

The band members met each other in Chicago and formed a band in 1967, which was initially called The Big Thing. The next year they changed their name to The Chicago Transit Authority, but had to change it again when they were sued by The Chicago Transit Authority.

Next to the Beach Boys, they are the most commercially successful U.S. rock band of all time. They were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year.
