The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after a sheriff's deputy fatally shot a man following a chase in western Minnesota.
Authorities identified the man who was killed as 37-year-old Jay Johannes Holmgren of Evansville.
A deputy found Holmgren slumped over in his pickup on Main Street near Donnelly Friday morning. Holmgren took off, at one point ramming a Morris police squad car.
Other officers joined the pursuit which stretched about 50 miles at speeds up to 80 mph. Holmgren fired several shots through the back window at the squad cars.
Police used a maneuver to stop the pickup. Holmgren ran away and was shot when he pointed a handgun at officers.
One deputy fired his weapon. Stevens County Sheriff's Deputy Ron Hensinger was placed on standard administrative leave.
