Milder temps

High temperatures should pop back into the 50s today over most of Minnesota, an improvement over yesterday's 40s.

Some spots in southwestern Minnesota could flirt with 60 this afternoon:

Our average high this time of year is 53 degrees in the Twin Cities.

The Twin Cities area should see at least the upper 60s Friday afternoon, but a few spots in the metro area could touch 70 degrees.

Rain chances

A few scattered showers are possible today, but some peeks of sun could develop later this afternoon over southern Minnesota.

Tomorrow will be breezy, as a low pressure system approaches from the west:

The final frame of the loop shows our chance of showers over southern Minnesota on Saturday, as a low pressure system passes to our south.

Twins win!

Today is the 25th anniversary of the Minnesota Twins' victory in the 7th game of the 1991 World Series!

Of course, the game was played in the Metrodome, so weather was not a factor.

A check of weather records shows that the high temperature was 48 degrees that day in the Twin Cities. That isn't any colder than the weather in Cleveland during last night's World Series game!

Four days after the Twins won the 1991 World Series, the Halloween snowstorm arrived.  8.2 inches of snow fell in the Twin Cities on Halloween 1991, and heavy snow continued into the next day. We set our Twin Cities 24 hour snowfall record of 21 inches from Oct. 31 into Nov. 1, 1991. The snowfall total from Oct. 31 through Nov. 3, 1991 was 28.4 inches in the Twin Cities!

Halloween 2016

Our forecast for Monday afternoon and evening includes mild temperatures, with at least a chance of showers.

The NWS Global Forecast System model shows a nearby low pressure system at 6pm on Halloween:

NWS GFS model valid 6p.m. on Oct. 31

The green areas show 3 hour precipitation totals (3-6 p.m.).

The forecast could change, but the GFS shows we have the potential for some Halloween showers.

If the low moves quickly, it could take the showers away before the ghosts and goblins arrive at your door!
