Mostly 50s this week; rain returns Tuesday

Our Saturday was spectacular, with sunshine and a high of 64 degrees in the Twin Cities. A few spots in southern Minnesota even touched 70.

Our Sunday high temps will be cooler, but still slightly above normal in the south:

A few spots in southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities could touch 60 Sunday afternoon, with 50s elsewhere in the central and south. Far northern Minnesota may top out in the upper 40s.

Our average high this time of year is 55 degrees in the Twin Cities.

Highs Monday will be close to normal in most spots:

The Twin Cities area will probably see highs in the 50s most of this coming week.

Rain chances

Scattered showers are expected in northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin.

NOAA's North American Mesoscale 4 km resolution forecast model shows the Sunday showers:

At the end of the loop, you'll notice rain moving into southern Minnesota on Tuesday.

Periods of rain are likely Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday over about the southern two-thirds of Minnesota. Here is a summary of the possible rainfall amounts, courtesy of the Twin Cities NWS office:

The heaviest rainfall amounts, of 2 inches or more, would tend to be over south-central and southeastern Minnesota.

Fall colors

According to the latest Minnesota fall color report from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, fall colors are past peak in most of Minnesota.

However, fall colors are still near peak in parts of southern Minnesota:

I'm still seeing pockets of great fall color in the Twin Cities.

Of course, the rain that's expected this week could take down some of those colorful leaves.

A Wisconsin fall color report is also available.
