How film can grow to feature more black actors

In the 88-year history of the Academy Awards, only 14 black actors have won Oscars.

That number reflects the lack of nonwhite leads in film. A recent study shows that 83 percent of the lead actors in films produced in 2013 were white.

Erika Howard, of Women at the Movies, and Gil Robertson, president of the African American Film Critics Association, discussed the movies that do feature black actors and the ways film has evolved and where there is still room to grow with the Cube Critics.
