Low clouds blanket most of the area this morning. They will lift slowly with the heating of the day and probably give way to at least some sunshine by afternoon.
Expect high temperatures this afternoon to range from the 60s in northeastern Minnesota to around 80 in the southwest. The Twin Cities probably will climb into the upper 70s, which is about 10 degrees warmer than normal for this date.
Be alert to the good chance of rapidly-changing weather later today.
Our prospects for thunderstorms later today and tonight begin with a cold front that will track eastward from the Dakotas. A deep plume of tropical moisture extending from Texas to South Dakota will feed abundant water vapor into the warm air ahead of the front and lead to the possibility of heavy rain in the southern half of Minnesota.

Isolated severe weather is possible with some of the stronger storms later today. There is a marginal risk of severe storms later today as far east as Minneapolis. Forecast models indicate that storms are likely to weaken as they move across the Twin Cities, mainly because the heating of the day will be gone.
