The Lakeville police officer who was fired more than a year ago for leaking information to the media is now suing the city in federal court.
Rick Bussler, a 17-year law enforcement veteran, was dismissed in November 2014 after internal investigators determined he shared information about ongoing police investigations with the media.
Bussler appealed his dismissal late last year, which was denied.
In this new lawsuit, Bussler is seeking more than $50,000 in damages, arguing the city violated his First Amendment rights.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Bussler's attorney Marshall Tanick.
