UPDATED 10:45 a.m. with Paulsen event
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, whose awkward relationship has been one of the 2016 campaign's story lines, are due in Minnesota on the same day for fundraising events.
Trump has a high-dollar fundraiser in the state scheduled for Aug. 19. But it's not yet known if there will be a public rally associated with it.
An invitation obtained by MPR News shows Ryan is also touching down in Minnesota that evening to raise money for 8th Congressional District GOP candidate Stewart Mills. A separate invite, also obtained by MPR News, says Ryan will host a fundraiser for Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen on Thursday morning.
Mills ran one of the most competitive races for a challenger in 2014 and narrowly lost to Democratic U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan. Their rematch is likely to draw millions of outside dollars in the form of television ads, and both candidates are stockpiling campaign money for the fall.
Paulsen, who is seeking his fifth term representing the 3rd Congressional District, is being challenged by DFL state Sen. Terri Bonoff in a race drawing increasing national attention. The Ryan fundraising invitation seeks donations of up to $2,700 per person.
A top Democratic lawmaker, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland, raised money for Nolan and Bonoff during a campaign swing last week.
