Today's Morning Edition music is from 50 years ago today, when Micky Dolenz recorded the lead vocal for the theme song to the television show "The Monkees," which would hit the airwaves a few months later.
The song was one of three written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart for the show's pilot episode.
Boyce and Hart's band The Candy Store Prophets played the instruments on the track. An earlier attempt to get all four Monkees to sing the song in unison was scrapped when the recording session devolved into a wrestling match.
