Push underway to train police officers at the U

The spotlight has fallen once again on law enforcement after the fatal police shooting of Philando Castile last week.

Ideas old and new are being proposed for police reform. A group of academics, law enforcement officials, religious leaders and community workers came together to send a letter to Gov. Mark Dayton with their proposal last week.

Leading that effort was Bill Woodson, a former assistant dean at St. Thomas, now studying for his Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota. He's been working on an effort to encourage students of color to pursue careers in law enforcement.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with him.
