In the wake of the fatal police shooting of Philando Castile and the subsequent demonstrations, we look at the psychological effects of trauma on communities - particularly historical trauma in communities of color. How does that trauma affect people's health and create health disparities? And what role do collective histories play?
Tom Weber talks with three guests.
• Sam Simmons is a consultant who focuses on historical trauma. He also works at the Family Partnership, which offers several counseling and education programs.
• Joi Lewis is founder and CEO of the consulting firm Joi Unlimited, which focuses on trauma and self-care. Lewis worked last winter with protesters at the 4th precinct in north Minneapolis.
• Willie Garrett is the President of the Minnesota Association of Black Psychologists.
