In Jonathan Rauch's tongue-in-cheek dystopia, Kanye West is running for the Democratic presidential nomination and the star of Duck Dynasty leads the GOP. Paul Ryan has long since given up the speakership, and government shutdowns have become all too familiar to American voters. Mr. Rauch writes in a cover story for The Atlantic: "Yes, the political future I've described is unreal. But it is also a linear extrapolation of several trends on vivid display right now."
MPR News host Kerri Miller talked with Rauch and with Larry Jacobs, chair for political science at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, about just how crazy American politics has become...and what can be done to fix it.
