Severe T-Storm Watch until 10 pm west of metro

NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 pm for most of southwest Minnesota, eastern South Dakota and northwest Iowa. The watch includes the far west metro counties, but does not include the inner metro core, downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul.

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

NORTHWEST IOWA

SOUTHERN MINNESOTA

EASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA

* EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 305 PM UNTIL

1000 PM CDT.

* PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...

ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER

POSSIBLE ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE

SUMMARY...RELATIVELY ISOLATED STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MAY CONTINUE TO INCREASE IN COVERAGE ESPECIALLY ACROSS SOUTHWEST/SOUTH-CENTRAL MINNESOTA OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS...WITH ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT ANTICIPATED LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING ACROSS EASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA/NORTHWEST IOWA. WHILE VERTICAL SHEAR IS WEAK...STEEP LAPSE RATES AND STRONG INSTABILITY WILL SUPPORT AT LEAST SOME POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGING WINDS AND HAIL.

We'll have to watch the eastern progress of storms, but more stable air near the Twin Cities will likely limit storms in the Twin Cities metro core through this evening.
