Our Minnesota fishing opener is a great tradition.
We like to get out and catch our first walleye, regardless of the weather. This year, we'll see folks wearing warm gloves and hats for our fishing opener.
Freeze warning
Lows late tonight and early Saturday morning will be in the 20s to lower 30s over Minnesota:

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. for much of western and central Minnesota:
A frost advisory is in effect for the Twin Cities, south-central Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin, where patchy frost is possible.
Before you go to bed tonight, it would be a good idea to cover outdoor plants that are vulnerable to frost or freezing temperatures. If you have some potted plants that could be moved indoors, that is another precaution to consider.
The growing season has not yet started in northeastern Minnesota, so a freeze warning has not been issued for that area even though lows in the 20s are expected:

Highs Saturday will be mainly in the 40s over Minnesota, with a few spots in southern Minnesota touching 50 degrees:
It will be breezy as well, so there will be a substantial walleye chop on Minnesota lakes.
Morning wind chill readings in the 20s are possible.
Cold start, then warmer Sunday afternoon
Temps start out very chilly Sunday morning:
Patchy frost will be possible, especially in low spots.
Highs will be a few degrees warmer on Sunday:
We could hit 60 in the Twin Cities, with mainly 50s over northern Minnesota.
Warmup is in sight
It has to get warmer, and we see signs of a warmup in the forecast models. Highs in the 60s are expected Monday through Wednesday, and we should touch 70 next Thursday. Highs next Friday could be well into the 70s!
