Top-level negotiations to begin on ending legislative session

It's that time of year again — Gov. Mark Dayton and top legislative leaders are headed into private negotiations to figure out if they can reach a deal to divvy up a state surplus and authorize a package of construction proposals.

Dayton has invited DFL Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk and Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt to begin those discussions Monday.

And even before the meetings start, the two sides are already talking about who gets the blame if nothing comes together.
