Today's Morning Edition music is from 50 years ago today when the Beatles began recording "Eleanor Rigby" at the EMI studios in London.
Actually, the only thing that the Beatles contributed were the vocals. The instrumentation came from an eight-piece string ensemble that was brought in.
They performed a score composed by producer George Martin. In his autobiography, Martin wrote that his composition was inspired by Bernard Herrmann's score for the Alfred Hitchcock film "Psycho."
