It was a very cold start to our weekend all across Minnesota. The Saturday morning low at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 20 degrees, but many spots around the fringes of the metro area recorded lows in the teens.

It was much colder over parts of northeastern Minnesota. Grand Marais Airport reported 11 below zero this morning! A record low reading of 2 degrees was measured at the Duluth airport.

Here are some frigid readings compiled by the Duluth office of the National Weather Service:

Warmer Sunday

An approaching low pressure system will give us increasing southerly breezes tonight and early Sunday:

A few scattered showers are possible Saturday night and early Sunday, and an isolated thunderstorm is also possible over southern Minnesota.

Winds shift to the northwest Sunday afternoon, but highs will still be in the 50s over southern Minnesota:

Temps dip early next week, then a nice rebound

Monday will be cold and windy, and cool temps linger through Tuesday. Then the warmup begins!

Highs in the 50s are on tap for Wednesday, and we should see 60s on Thursday. Some spots just southwest of the Twin Cities could see highs close to 70 on Thursday.
