Today's Morning Edition music is dedicated to remembering the life of country music legend Merle Haggard who passed away Wednesday at the age of 79.

Retired MPR News host Gary Eichten is a big country music fan, so we asked him to pick a favorite Haggard song to remember him by.

He chose "Today I Started Loving You Again."

Here's what he says about the piece: "It's one of the great 'oven songs,' which is one you listen to when your baby's left you and you're ready to stick your head in the oven. But, if you listen to enough of those songs in that condition, you realize everyone else is just as screwed and you wind up feeling OK."
