Today is the first full day of Spring!
The vernal equinox occurred at 1130 pm CDT Saturday night, and our sunsets will happen later and later over the next three months. In the Twin Cities, our sunset time reaches 9:04 pm during the third week of June!
This tweet from NOAA caught my eye today:
Scientists at NOAA's South Pole Atmospheric Baseline Observatory will not see the sun again for the next 6 months! More details at South Pole .

Normal today
We'll have sunshine and patchy clouds today. Our highs will be typical for this time of year, mainly in the lower 40s over southern Minnesota and in upper 30s over the far north:
A few afternoon flurries are possible near the Canadian border.
High will be warmer on Monday, as our winds shift to the south:
Wet snow on Wednesday?
Here is what the NOAA GFS model shows for Wednesday afternoon:
It shows a strong low pressure system over the southwest corner of Iowa, moving northeastward. If that happens, we could get several inches of wet snow over central and southern Minnesota and much of Wisconsin. The Twin Cities metro area could see a rain/snow mix change to all snow Wednesday afternoon, with periods of wet snow Wednesday night into early Thursday.
The European Forecast model shows a more southerly track for the low pressure system. If that track happens, central Minnesota and the Twin Cities would see very little snow, with most of the snow falling over far southern Minnesota into northern Iowa and southern Wisconsin.
Check back for updates, especially if you have travel plans for Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning.
Next 50?
Some spots could touch 50 on Monday, but we have an even better shot at 50 on Tuesday:
If we get a bit more afternoon sunshine, mid 50s are possible on Tuesday.
I hope that you have a great Sunday!
