Former Minnesota health commissioner Sister Mary Madonna Ashton will be honored, alongside 15 other women this week, with the 2016 National Women's History Month award.
Ashton served as Minnesota's health commissioner under Gov. Rudy Perpich in the 1980s. She helped create what would become St. Mary's Health Clinics in 1992.
She spoke with MPR News host Tom Weber about her time in those positions.
