Today's Morning Edition music is from Frank Sinatra's daughter Nancy with her signature song "These Boots are Made for Walkin'".
It was No. 1 on the U.S. pop chart 50 years ago. The song was written by Lee Hazelwood who considered recording it himself, but Sinatra convinced him that it sounded too harsh when sung by a man.
She later said that the song really doesn't reflect her personality. " 'Boots' was hard," she said, "and I'm as soft as they come."
