Melt continues, breezy on Friday with morning rain likely

Our February thaw will continue through Friday, and on into the weekend. In fact, our Twin Cities temperature is expected to stay above freezing until at least Sunday morning.

Look at the forecast high temperatures for Friday:

The projected highs are very impressive, since our average high this time of year is 30 degrees!

Highs will also be much warmer than normal on Saturday:

A low pressure system will move over Minnesota on Friday, bringing rainshowers to southern Minnesota during the morning hours. Rain showers and snow showers are possible in the north, and there could be some pockets of freezing rain.

Tough sledding

I'm glad the school kids had Monday off for President's day. They were able to enjoy some quality sledding and skating earlier this week.

Sledding conditions have deteriorated.  Here is how the popular sledding hill at Highland National Golf Course in St. Paul looked this morning:

The snow was very compacted, and there was an icy coating from recent melting and re-freezing.  Most of our snowcover will be gone by Sunday afternoon.

If you are a snow lover, hang in there...our snow season is far from over!
